Medical Oncology
Dr. Amer Rassam is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology with expertise in all cancers including hematologic disorders and oncologic malignancies. He founded Tallahassee Cancer Institute in 2005 and is an affiliate of H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. He is a consultant at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Capital Regional Medical Center, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center and Select Specialty Hospital. He is also an assistant professor at Florida State University (FSU), College of Medicine, and teaches medical students on regular bases. Dr. Rassam completed his Internal Medicine training at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC). Subsequently, he completed his fellowship training in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Louisiana State University, Feist Weiller Cancer Center in Shreveport, LA. During that time, he also served as a postdoctoral Research Fellow at Louisiana State University Medical Center. Prior to completing his residency in Internal Medicine at LSUHSC, Dr. Rassam was a research post-doctoral fellow at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNM), from 1997 until 1999 and has published several publications. Dr. Rassam received his medical doctor degree from the University Of Mosul, College Of Medicine, in 1983. Since then, he has held numerous positions with the Iraqi Ministry of Health as a hospital chief medical officer, hospital director and medical lecturer for medical students. He has also served as a Health Advisor for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in northern Iraq and was actively engaged in humanitarian reliefs. Dr. Rassam is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of physicians (ACP), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Medical Association (AMA), Florida Medical Association (FMA), Capital Medical Society (CMS), and Southern Oncology Association of Practices (S.O.A.P). Dr. Rassam is committed to providing exceptional and dedicated medical service by building partnerships with patients through active listening, open discussion, and education. Dr. Rassam believes that cancer requires close interaction between the patient, their support system, and healthcare providers. In addition to his medical and scientific interests, Dr. Rassam has a passion for computers, music and travel. He always enjoys playing the keyboard. He speaks Arabic fluently. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and four children.
